For individuals with permanent, functionally limiting health conditions, creating a life care plan aims to optimize occupational performance (i.e., participation in self-care, domestic tasks, and leisure, social, and vocational activities), maintain psychological health, and ensure personal safety.

This occupational therapy assessment is typically completed in the client's home in order to determine functional status and areas where equipment, items, and assistance is required.

In addition to the occupational therapy assessment, the costs of recommendations within other medical legal reports are included to assist with determining the individual's cost of future care.

Occupational therapists are trained to assess the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social impairments that may be limiting performance in daily activities including self-care, household tasks, work, school, and leisure activities.

Occupational therapists provide education, coaching, counselling, and skill development, along with the use of adaptive equipment and environmental modification to maintain, restore or enhance occupational performance and health.

A vocational evaluation typically includes assessment of an individuals past experience, transferrable skills, their interests, abilities, and values cross referenced with labour market and training research to assistance with school and employment planning.

Guidance and recommendations are provided on the suitability of occupations relative to the individual's medical difficulties - cognitive, physical, and psychosocial.

In exploring and negotiating employment options, wage loss due to injury as well as earning potential in alternate work are explored, along with the introduction of medically necessary accommodations that likely are required in a particular work setting.

Combining Cost-of-Future Care with Vocational and Functional Capacity Evaluations into a single comprehensive, defensible "triple combo report" is a unique and accessible option for presenting the full impact of an injury or condition.

Combining Vocational and Functional Capacity Evaluations into a single report provides a comprehensive understanding of an individual's vocational and/or educational situation, both in terms of wage loss and future earning capacity, as well as in terms of a sustainable career path until retirement.

Combining Cost-of-Future Care with Functional Capacity Evaluation (i.e., a double combination) provides a defensible understanding of functional capacity for work and future care costs.

A full day of testing (6-7.5 hours) using a standardized protocol and methodology is used to objectively measure an individual’s safe functional abilities (cognitive and physical) compared to the physical demands of work.

The assessment is done either in an office in Vancouver, BC or at the client's home using a mobile kit of standardized tools.

The assessment provides a measure of an individual's abilities in terms of their competence to negotiate weight, grasp, handle, move the body in space, achieve dynamic and static postures, problem solve, and perform work tasks within an expected time frame.

Based on the evaluation, recommendations are provided to maintain/improve work-related function.
